Chronic Kidney Disease

In 2010 my kidneys began to give me a bit of trouble.  This was because of the medication I am on and my diabetes my kidney function has declined. I began to retain fluid in my system and at times, I looked very bloated. My transplant consultant Prof. Egan referred me to a renial doctor within the Mater Hospital. I began to see her at her out-paitent clinic every month, initially. My kidneys have only about 30% funciton now.

Chornic Kidney Disease, it sounds terrible but this what I have now. Things have changed for me in this year 2012.  I began a stricked renial diet in March, which is a low potassium diet. My kidneys can not filter what goes into my system as good as they once did. In March the potassium levels in my blood got dangeriously high. So much so that I could of had a stroke or a heart attack. I was hospitalised for 10 days until they got my blood levels down to a reasonable level. Thank God they've come down to an acceptable level for me now.

However in March my doctors were very worried about my health and began talking about kidney dialysis as a real possibility. Eventually I will require a kidney transplant. At the moment though my kidney levels are still at a good level for me and I don't need to start dialysis just yet. Please keep me in your prayers at this time and I will keep you in mine.

I will also keep you updated on my situation.
